Tolkien's Middle-earth enjoys immense popularity among fantasy fans, and the same goes for the Tolkien trilogy. Lord of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson. It is true that the trilogy of Hobbit is less loved, but it also made a lot of money, so the idea of a prequel for both seems like a safe bet.
>> We always forget it, but there is a better adaptation of Lord of the Rings than that of Peter Jackson… It lasts 13 hours! <<
Nothing is less true, but the sad and only reason why The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim exists has just been revealed: so that New Line does not lose the rights.
Unexpected honesty
To be fair to Warner, it was the company itself that clarified this point in a press release in which the studio noted that “The Rohirrim War was fast-tracked to ensure that New Line Cinema did not lose the rights to film adaptations of Tolkien's novels while the Lord of the Ring trio (Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens) worked on a vision creative for the next live-action films in the LOTR (Lord of the Ring) series“.
>> Ni Harry Potteris The Lord of the Rings : this cult adventure saga is getting a remake on Netflix and the film will be one of the most expensive in the history of the platform! <<
In other words, a film hastily made to save time for Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum and subsequent live-action films set in this universe. This is why the failure of The Rohirrim War at the box office isn't that big, and actually, it's not that bad either. After all, its low budget of around $30 million meant it wouldn't lose much money in a worst-case scenario.
>> If you like The Lord of the Ringsyou absolutely must see this fantastic film, the first opus of an exceptional trilogy! <<
This unexpected transparency from Warner coincides with the release of the film The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim in the United States, where it debuted with revenues of $4.6 million. A rather low figure which barely allows it to occupy fifth place in the Top 10 at the box office, where Vaiana 2which breaks records, is still in the lead.
Considering that Warner does not seem to have spent a lot of money on promotion, which has been the subject of numerous comments on various social networks, one might think that its theatrical release was just a simple formality. The main thing now is to lose as little money as possible, even if it seems inevitable, since the film has so far only collected $10.3 million worldwide.
