Since December 11, 2024, the Jura residents have only been talking about one film: Twenty Gods. This is the first feature film of Louise Courvoisiera 30-year-old director from Cressiain the Jura.

Before its release, this film was already making waves, being distinguished by the youth prize at the Cannes Film Festivalthe Valois de Diamant in Angoulême Festival and more recently the price Jean Vigo 2024. Jurassians, not actors

Twenty Godsthis is the story of “Totone”, embodied by Clement Faveaua young Jura resident – ​​very – party animal, who finds himself having to take care of his little sister following the death of their father. Alongside his somewhat chaotic professional life, he is launching a new challenge: run for the medal for best Comté cheese.

Casting was not an easy task: Louise Courvoisier did not want Parisian actors. “The actors in this film are not professionalthe majority are farmers. I wanted people from here, in their element, with their habits and their accent », she confided to her audience during a preview at Dole, last Wednesday October 23. She said with a laugh: “For Clément, I saw him leaving high schooland I said to myself ‘he would make a good Totone!’. I went to see him and he told me he wasn’t interested. I suggested that he take some time to think, and he finally agreed. When I informed him that it was the main rolehe said, ‘I don’t see any problem in it’.

Did Clément Faveau really make Comté cheese?

Two scenes particularly stood out: county manufacturing by Totone and his little sister, and calving(calving in cows, editor’s note). Are these scenes real and how are they shot? A person from the public asked the question during this same preview.

Louise Courvoisier replied: “There are a lot of tricks in cinema, but these two scenes are very real. We had a county manufacturer with us on set to guide us. He was more afraid that we would miss the cheese than the scene. »

Stay in the Jura

The director had confided to Voice of Jura that she always found her inspiration in the same place: “At home, surrounded by my packmy family and the locals. » For six years, the life of this resident of Cressia has almost come down to one thing, Twenty Godswhich she began writing in 2019.

In total: two and a half years of writing a year of casting and funding requests, two months of filmingand post-production, which was completed just a week before the Cannes Film Festival. “And again, filming was delayed because the main character broke his femur after partying,” she told our editorial staff with a laugh.

For the future, Louise Courvoisier always wishes to remain faithful to her roots. “I can’t live anywhere other than at home, I’m comfortable in my own corner, in the Jura. It is important to protect yourself from the Parisian networkit allows us to remain sincere in what we say and to be protected from the expectations of othersand thus limit the pressure of wanting to do well,” she said.
