It is not necessary to pay several dozen euros per month to benefit from a quality SVOD service that can provide its subscribers with new products every week. Facing Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, etc. a streaming platform made in is resisting. She has just treated herself to the film adaptation of a cult video game franchise for a very limited time.

Video games finally taken seriously by the 7th

There was a time not so long ago when the mere words “video game adaptation” gave gamers around the world a cold sweat and nightmares. There were legion films adapted from cult sagas that did not respect the original material in any way. Fortunately, things have changed. In 2024 alone, we were treated to the excellent live-action series Fallout produced by Amazon Studios and the animated series Arcane on Netflix, to name a few. However, the Borderlands case reminds us that nothing is yet decided and that a misstep can happen so quickly.

An adaptation that divides critics and the general public

Another film from a major video game license has had a chaotic development, to say the least. As early as 2008, producer Avi Arad confirmed that he was working on a film adaptation of Uncharted. However, the film will not be released until 14 years later, in 2022, with Mark Wahlberg as Victor “Sully” Sullivan (assumed to play Nathan Drake in a previous version of the script) and Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. The production was entrusted to Ruben Fleischer whose main works at the time were Zombieland, Return to Zombieland and Gangster Squad.

Uncharted is taken down by critics who accuse it of being a disappointing exploitation of a famous license having neither the panache nor the talent of the adventure films from which the games and the film are inspired. The score of 41% on RottenTomatoes says a lot about the press’ reception, unlike the spectators who gave it an eloquent 89%. Moreover, Uncharted was a commercial success for Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions. With a comfortable budget of 120 million US dollars, the film grossed 407.1 million. Now is the time to form your own opinion. Uncharted is available for free on TF1+ for another 3 days (as of December 3, 2024).

Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan set out in search of Ferdinand Magellan’s treasure, estimated at five billion dollars. A race around the globe then begins to regain this fortune before Santiago Montada, convinced that his family is the heir, seizes it. – (TF1+)
