Disney censored joke leaked

Released this summer, “Deadpool & Wolverine” exploded at the global box office and confirmed that Wade Wilson's irreverent humor could survive under the Disney banner. However, one line in particular, deemed too daring, was cut during editing. Thanks to a leaked script, fans finally find out what was in it… and we understand why it never made it to screens.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Disney says no to a joke

Since his debut, Deadpool has been known for his unfiltered humor, his meta remarks and his ability to break the fourth wall. In Deadpool & Wolverine, the third part of the saga and the first under the aegis of Disney, Wade Wilson continues to scratch everything and everyone – but it seems that this freedom of expression has found a limit.

A recently leaked excerpt from the script (via ScreenRant) reveals a deleted scene in which Deadpool reacts to the death of one of the X-Men. Frustrated, he released this scathing reply:

FUCK! What, we can't even afford one more X-Man? Disney is so stingy. I can barely breathe with Mickey Mouse's cock in my throat!

This joke combines both explicit vulgarity and direct criticism of Disney, its new owner. If Deadpool has already parodied the studios that produced it, this time the tone seems to have gone beyond what Disney was willing to accept.

A delicate but successful balance

The removal of this line clearly shows the dilemma Disney faces with Deadpool: how to maintain the subversive essence of the character while respecting the family image of the studio ? Ryan Reynolds had already explained that he had given him carte blanche, except for one joke. Having discovered it, we now understand why it was censored by the studio.

This anecdote clearly illustrates the balance that Deadpool & Wolverine managed to achieve: an R-rated film, irreverent and faithful to the spirit of the character, but with limits imposed by Disney. Spectators largely approved of this mix, proving that it is possible to integrate Deadpool into the Marvel universe without betraying what makes it so successful.

We recall that the film was a worldwide box office phenomenon, raking in $1.3 billion in revenue.
