Halloween is coming soon, and streaming platforms have understood this well. SVOD giants are multiplying fantastic and horror projects as October approaches. On Max, it is the imagination of Stephen King that will be explored in a series. Salem’s Lotas its name suggests, will evolve around fantastic folklore. Adapted from a novel by Stephen King, the series takes place in the small town of Jerusalem’s Lot in Maine. The seemingly quiet town becomes the scene of a tragedy. When two young boys venture into the woods, only one emerges unharmed.. Ben Mears, who returns to his hometown, discovers that something sinister is brewing. His hometown is under siege by evil forces. Only he and a group of allies can fight and contain this growing evil.
To play the main character, Max recruits Lewis Pullman. Before his appearance in Thunderbolts* at Marvel and after being played by Rhett Abbott in Outer Range, the actor lends his features to Ben Mears. He will give the reply to Makenzie Leigh (Gotham), Bill Camp and Spencer Treat Clark (Unbreakable). Alfre Woodward and Pilou Asbæk, known respectively for their roles in Desperate Housewives and Game of Thrones will also be on the trip. The production will be provided by Gary Dauberman, who also worked as a screenwriter alongside James Wan. The original music will be composed by Nathan Barr and Lisbeth Scott.
The Origins of the Master of Horror
Published in 1975, Salem’s Lot is Stephen King’s second novel. The father of Shining et That did not yet have the reputation he enjoys today, but had already won over the press with his mastery of the horror genre. By his own admission, the novel was a tribute to Dracula by Bram Stoker. It was while teaching the iconic work to his students that he had the idea of transposing the count into an American context in the late 1970s. He thus combined this idea with more contemporary inspirations, such as Tales from the Crypt which fed his imagination. These are as many tones and colors that we hope to find in this film which should delight horror fans.

As a reminder, Salem’s Lothas already benefited from several adaptations, starting in 1979 for a TV film with David Soul (Starksy et Hutch) in the lead role. A sequel loosely based on the novel was produced in the 80s before a series was born. Rob Lowe, Donald Sutherland were among the actors called upon in this new adaptation broadcast in 2004, exactly twenty years ago. The appointment with this new film is made for next October 3 on Max.
