The broadcast of The Penguin has only just ended but it seems to have largely won over spectators and press outlets. The series is a spin-off of the film The Batman by Matt Reeves and brings with it a rather interesting easter egg.

The spin-off series of the film The Batman by Matt Reeves unveiled its eighth and final episode on Monday, November 11. The success of the feature film with Robert Pattinson brought with it a very large number of questions. The Penguin allows you to discover the rise in the criminal world of Gotham City of Oswald Cobb aka The Penguin, an emblematic character from the world of Batman. The future antagonist in The Batman 2

The series has won over many people who did not yet know the universe of Gotham City but above all a lot of fans. No detail is left to chance in the DC Comics universe et The Penguin do not deviate from this rule. With Lauren LeFranc (Marvel: The Agents of SHIELD) during the production, you had to have a keen eye to observe a detail that could be very important for the next Batman film. Indeed, it could be that the spin-off is hiding information on the future antagonist of the next feature film. In the fourth episode, entitled Cheers, we can notice certain objects in the office of the character Dr. Rush in Arkham, played by Theo Rossi.

If your eyes are in the right place, you can see a mask and gloves that resemble those of an iconic Batman villain: Scarecrow. These objects did not leave fans indifferent, who widely relayed their discovery on social networks. The director has not yet communicated but the production designer Kalina Ivanov declared on her Instagram page “left the presence of these objects open to interpretation”. A theory is spreading throughout the DC community. In December 2023, some insiders report that Theo Rossi is cast to play the role of Jonathan Crane, a head psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum and Scarecrow's alter ego. Finally, the actor plays Doctor Julian Rush whose role is very similar in the series. Is this just a coincidence? Or an opening to announce Batman's new adversary? No information on Batman's next opponent has been communicated at this time.

Unanimous opinions

In and around the world, The Penguin is a hit and seems to have convinced the majority of press outlets. On RottenTomatoes, the series has a 95% rating from over 108 reviews. The observation is similar among spectators with more than 92% of them recommending it. A score which shows that the spin-off has made a place for itself in the universe of Gotham City. The Batman: Part II is expected in French theaters on September 30, 2026.
