This film is nerve-wracking. The first was excellent, and the second defied all odds by being excellent as well. The longer these franchises last, the more likely they are to produce a bad movie. But they managed to pull out all the stops twice in a row, so why not a third time? Rian Johnson is still at the helm, and this time he has Josh Brolin and Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Mila Kunis and Kerry Washington at his disposal. It’s promising. Very promising.
Nickel Boys
One of the big films to watch for the Oscars, Nickel Boys — an adaptation of the acclaimed, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name — is a period film that tells the story of a young black boy facing Jim Crow racism in 1960s Florida. David Ehrlich, critical for IndieWirecalls it a “stunningly beautiful story of resilience” and “an achievement as important and memorable as any American film of this decade”; What’s more, it was produced by Plan B, the studio behind 12 Years a Slave and of Moonlight.
Happy Gilmore 2
We don’t yet know much about the sequel to Happy Gilmoreexcept that there will be a series of Happy Gilmoreand that Netflix is planning its release in 2025. But do we need to know more to know that there will be a sequel to Happy Gilmore ? No. We will be there from day one. Oh, sure, there’s a little extra for movie buffs: Benny Safdie, the co-director of Uncut Gems who has collaborated in front of the camera for films like Oppenheimer et Licorice Pizzawill appear in a “juicy” role according to Adam Sandler. Hopefully a hole in one.
Havoc
This action movie starring Tom Hardy has been in the works for (literally) years, but it’s likely to hit Netflix in 2025. Directed by Gareth Evans, who has built a reputation as an action movie director with The Raidit stars Tom Hardy in the role of a “bruised detective” whose mission is to “save the son of a politician from whom he is separated”.
Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro
It only makes sense that monster movie master Guillermo del Toro would finally tackle the greatest monster story, Frankensteinin a Netflix adaptation which will arrive in 2025. Oscar Isaac should play Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi, the handsome guy fromEuphoriahis monster. Filming on the film recently wrapped in Scotland (you may have noticed del Toro posted about his haunted hotel room). The film also stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance and more.
