When a dream vacation turns into a nightmare: discover the crazy adventure of Virginie Hocq and Gérard Jugnot in Corsica

The comedy of the year hits the big screen this week! Virginie Hocq and Gérard Jugnot play a couple on the verge of a nervous breakdown in “We should have gone to Greece”, a film which promises great laughs and a picturesque immersion in the heart of Corsica. Here’s what you need to know about this feature film which mixes humor, misunderstandings and dreamscapes.

This Wednesday, Nicolas Benamou’s new film is released in theaters. “We should have gone to Greece” tells the story of a French family accustomed to sunny stays in Greece who find themselves forced to change course and settle down in Corsica. But as soon as they arrive, everything goes wrong. First incident? They run over a cow on the road. The news quickly spreads on the island, and for this family accustomed to comfort and luxury, it is the beginning of trouble.

Acting in a comedy is not child’s play, and Virginie Hocq and Gérard Jugnot know this well. You have to be concentrated, have the Vis Comica, as Gérard Jugnot says, that is to say, have the right tone, the right facial expression for each shot, each line. “There is also and above all the cutting. It’s true that we have the impression that we could take this as a text that begins like this and ends like that. Except that often, it’s not shot chronologically”adds Virginie Hocq.

The two actors, far from simply having fun on set, take their job very seriously. OWe’re not here to laugh, it’s up to people to laugh.”confides Gérard Jugnot.

An irresistible and complicit duo

In the film, Virginie plays a woman who is a little too fond of rosé, while Gérard plays a gynecologist ruined by bad investments. Their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, and their off-camera complicity adds an extra touch of charm. “She’s someone that I find absolutely adorable on a human level, but who talks a lot. But it’s very good for promotion because she can speak for me”jokes the actor about Virginie Hocq.

In addition to its talented actors, “We should have gone to Greece” highlights the beauty of Corsica, its clichés and its unique atmosphere. “There is a sentence that I love, that I would like to write in a bubble: ‘You are welcome here, but don’t forget that you are at home’, that’s really Corsica”concludes Virginie Hocq.
