This year, no one could miss the phenomenon Under the Seine. Indeed, the Netflix film by Xavier Gens has broken all records around the world.

The film plunges spectators into a thrilling race against time. While a triathlon event is planned in the Seine for the 2024 Olympic Games, a giant shark sows terror in the river. Sophia, a brilliant scientist played by Bérénice Bejo, joins forces with Mika (Léa Léviant), an environmental activist, and Adil (Nassim Lyes), commander of the river police, to prevent a catastrophe in the heart of the French capital.

Since its release on June 5 on the platform with the red logo, the film has become the most viewed French feature film of all time on Netflix. And the second most viewed non-English language film of all time, just behind Troll.

After such success and an open ending, there was no doubt that Under the Seine 2 would soon see the light of day. And the officialization has finally arrived! According to Variety, Netflix has given the green light for a second film, still directed by Xavier Gens.

Bérénice Bejo will reprise her role as a scientist, while Nassim Lyes will be back in the shoes of the river police commander. As a reminder, in the end scene of Under the Seineboth found themselves in a Paris submerged and surrounded by sharks.

In a recent interview given to La Tribune, Bérénice Bejo confided that the filming of Under the Seine 2 could begin in September 2025. But according to information from Variety, the film is only in its early stages, and filming should not take place before 2026.
