“I met a larger-than-life Darth Vader”, Star Wars becomes ChtarWars for a Ch’ti version convention

With stars in their eyes, cosplayers from the iconic Star Wars saga set the Ch’ti convention in Boulogne sur Mer, called ChtarWars, on fire. Three days of happiness and games for these enthusiasts who transform into their favorite characters.

One thing is certain, the force was with these cosplayers at the Palais des sports Damrémont in Boulogne sur Mer! Cosplaying comes from the contraction of two English terms “Costume” and “Playing”. Defined as an art, it consists of embodying a character in their attitude, makeup and costume.

The fights were unequal this weekend. A Jedi threatened Stormtroopers with blaster rifles with his lightsaber without a single victim to be deplored. Whether on the dark or light side of the Force, good humor was there! Chewbacca was chatting with Princess Leia with an abnormally developed hair system, while Dark Mole, the robot C3PO and even Darth Vader walked the aisles.

Experiences possible thanks to some 460 cosplayers at the ChtarWars convention. Thomas came from Belgium as a sandman from the planet Tatouine. “Star Wars, I’ve always been a fan and the first time I went to a convention, I met a larger than life Darth Vader, at the time I was impressed. I thought it was fantastic to meet a key character in real life”confides Thomas.

Laëtitia a passé a hundred of hours for making your costume: “It’s sewing time, making the patterns on a mannequin then redoing them on fabric, but when you have a passion, you don’t count the time”, concludes the one who embodies Hera Syndulla.

Created in 1977, this work of science fiction also affects young children who are taught Jedi knights by their parents. Pistol whirling between his fingers, this young boy reveals: “Basically, it’s my father who does it and watching him do it, I saw that I liked it, so I got into it too.” Another adds : “We leave all normal life behind to do something that few people do, it’s a big family.”

Wildly successful cosplayers. For its fourth edition, the Chtar Wars convention attracted 10,000 visitors. The next edition will take place in 2026, time for you to make the costume of your favorite character.
