With a budget of $2 million, everything is better in this film in terms of aesthetics: photography, sets and special effects.
With this first viewing, I found this 3rd episode confusing. We alternate between scenes of
– Art massacring people dressed as Santa Claus.
– Art and his sidekick in an abandoned building
– The lives of Sienna and Jonathan
Luckily all of these arcs come together at the end. I remain skeptical about the chronological order of these different segments. I have the feeling that Damien Leone thought he was in Pulp Fiction in the way he wrote his screenplay.
Obviously the actors from the previous film are still good, David Howard Thornton (Art) in the lead. Lauren LaVera (Sienna Shaw) and Elliot Fullam (Jonathan) have seemingly won in their acting. No doubt it is because their characters are resilient to the events of Terrifier 2.
The killing scenes are the strong point of the film. Here we change the usual tools (knives, swifts, etc.) that Art took out of his trash bag. Now place for
the chainsaw, the gas that instantly freezes, rat pipe.
We therefore do not come away indifferent from the film with these scenes.
The 1980s synth music still adds to the charm of this feature film.
Showing your film at Christmas is also a relevant choice. Already this changes from the current Halloween period for many slasher (including the first 2 films in the saga). In addition, this choice is conducive to many horror scenes with dark humor.
Damien Leone continues in this 3rd film to expand the fantastic universe that emerged in the previous opus. We therefore find ourselves with biblical allusions in certain situations. This portends anthology confrontations for the two sequels in preparation.
