Sometimes making a good movie isn’t even necessary to make a movie that works. In any case, this is what the presence of a certain romantic film produced by Netflix proves to us which has risen to first place in the top most viewed films on the platform at the moment… even though it is not very well received by critics and spectators.

A romance with The Witcher actor is a hit on Netflix

It’s been a while now that we’ve known that Henry Cavill will have to give up his place as the Witcher in the Netflix series The Witcher. To replace it, it will be Liam Hemsworth who will take on the role of Geralt of Rivia. If many spectators have already seen him in the Hunger Games saga, he remains much less known than Cavill or even his big brother Chris Hemsworth (whom you saw in the role of Thor in the MCU films). So if you want to find a movie to give you an idea of what to expect for the next season of The Witcher, know that Liam Hemsworth is currently starring in a brand new romantic film called Lonely Planet.

Available on Netflix for a few days, Lonely Planet is a romance and drama film directed by Susannah Grant. He stages Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) et Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games) and tells the story of Katherine Loewe, an author in need of inspiration who goes to Morocco to try to get out of the way. She then meets Owen Brophy, a man much younger than her with whom she will gradually form a relationship. Although it has just been released, Lonely Planet is currently a hit on Netflix and has even managed to climb to first place in the top most-watched films of the moment on the platform.

However, it is not unanimous among spectators…

But while the success of Lonely Planet seems undeniable if Netflix’s internal rankings are to be believed, the reviews surrounding the film are not as glowing. Indeed, on Rotten Tomatoeswe can see that Lonely Planet only gets a score of 38% for the press and 39% for the public. The Daily Telegraph speaks for example of a “graft between the corpse from When Harry Met Sally and the freshly unearthed remains from Lost in Translation”, we saw more positive.

As for the Laura Dern/Liam Hemsworth couple, the Observer notes that despite their best efforts, they have no chemistry. Some spectators, for their part, noted a complete lack of interest in Hemsworth’s character who is too detestable for anyone to become attached to him. You will have understood, despite its success, Lonely Planet does not seem to be the film of the year, far from it. If you want to give it a chance, however, you can find it in the Netflix catalog.
