the bloody trailer for the horror film The Monkey, adapted from Stephen King

Osgood Perkins, director of Longlegsis already back with the horror film The Monkeyadapted from Stephen King. The first trailer is here.

In LonglegsOsgood Perkins had more or less proposed his Satanist version of Silence of the Lambswith Maika Monroe as Clarice Starling. The staging and the troweled face of Nicolas Cage had contributed to making the film a memorable experience for a lot of people, in addition to confirming the appetite of Anthony Perkins’ son (yes, the Norman Bates of Psychosis) for atmospheric horror.

And following this commercial success ($108 million at the worldwide box office, for a budget of $9 million), the director of I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House et Gretel et Hansel don’t waste a moment since his next film is already arriving.

Indeed, while Longlegs was released on our screens this summer, the distributor Neon has already announced the release of the next two Osgood Perkins films. The first is called The Monkey and the second is titled Keeper. But at present, tAll eyes are on the infernal monkey adapted from Stephen King, which was revealed in a striking trailer.

Longlegs, small cardboard of 2024

The devil all the time (aping)

Adapted from a short story by Stephen King published in 1980, The Monkey tell the story of twin brothers Bill and Hall (both played by Theo James) who discover an old toy that belonged to their father: a monkey. Following several mysterious deaths which indicate that the object is not normal, they decide to get rid of it, and continue their lives hoping to forget.

But when the dead start again, they will have to come together to finally face the nightmare surrounding this little monkey from hell, endowed with a slightly dangerous power. Not only does it cause deaths, but it also does so in a particularly cruel and savage manner.

IT WILL BE DIFFERENT FROM LONGLEGS

We find in this trailer the sense of strict framing of the director, while the mechanical monkey, source of evil, will be a new way for Oz Perkins to explore the themes of Satanism and the unspeakable. But unlike Longlegs, The Monkey will obviously be full of (black) humor.

Osgood Perkins rightly clarified that The Monkey « would not look at all like Longlegs » since it will be closer to Stephen King’s short story and its tone « funny and nostalgic ».

The film with a budget of 10 million and produced by James Wan (Insidious, Conjuring) will be worn by Theo James (Divergent, The White Lotus), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black, She-Hulk : Attorney at Law), and Elijah Wood. Which once again confirms his love of genre cinema.

To find out if The Monkey will be more unanimous than Longlegsyou will have to wait until cinema release, February 21, 2025. Moreover, the following Osgood Perkins film, Keeperis planned for 2026.
