“Joker: Folie à deux” disappoints: The trailer is enough: “no need to lock yourself in a theater to see it”

Five years after the success of the first opus, “Joker: Folie à deux” was released in theaters with high expectations. Unfortunately, the film starring Joachim Phoenix and Lady Gaga failed to convince the public.

With a budget estimated between 190 and 200 million dollars, “Joker 2” was expected around the corner. However, its start at the American box office was a real disappointment!

The film only grossed $40 million in its first weekend, a figure well below expectations. This result is all the more surprising given that the first “Joker” had a spectacular start with $96 million in 2019.

“Uninteresting pseudo musical comedy”

While the first film won over the public and critics, “Folie à Deux” divided. On AlloCiné, the spectator rating of 2.4/5 is significantly lower than that of the first opus (4.4/5). Some spectators did not mince their words.

“Incomprehensible. How could we have fallen so low? The musical has no purpose or interest, the story is empty and shoddy. Lady Gaga’s character had crazy potential, but nothing came of it. Fortunately, Joaquin Phoenix once again gives an equally remarkable performance to raise the level. Sad to see a film so empty despite the potential.”

Another laments: “Confusion, frustration and anger mix in my head. The film is going to be so divisive, from my side anyway, it’s certainly my biggest cinematic disappointment of the year.”
