68 years after revolutionizing science fiction in cinema, a cult Hollywood film will have the right to a French remake

After his performance of Zorro in the Paramount+ series, Jean Dujardin will soon be back, not in a comedy, but in a science fiction film. And the least we can say is that his role risks surprising us, since the great actor, accustomed to comic performances, will take advantage of this new genre to measure… a centimeter!

No, it will not be an improbable sequel to the comedy And man up to the taskin which he played a 1.36 m character opposite a hypnotic Virginie Efira, but from a remake of an iconic film released in 1957.

Jean Dujardin, new sci-fi hero

In 2025, Jean Dujardin will therefore be the star of The Shrinking Man, a cinema classic by filmmaker Jack Arnold. The 52-year-old actor will replace Grant Williams in this 12th century remake, and he will star opposite actress Marie-Josée Croze.

For those who have never seen it, this science fiction film tells the story of Paul, a completely ordinary husband and father, who sees his life transformed after being confronted with an unexplained meteorological phenomenon: it shrinks visibly. One day, he finds himself locked in his own cellar and must find a way to escape on his own.

Adapted from the bestselling novel by Richard Matheson, this new film The Shrinking Man is directed by Jan Kounen (who already collaborated with Jean Dujardin on the feature film 99 Francs). And with filming which ended last July, its release date is now known: October 22, 2025.

A first cult version

At the moment, we don’t yet know what the film will look like, but what we can say is that the bar is high! And for good reason, the first version of The shrinking man received a very warm reception when it was released in cinemas, sixty-seven years ago. On the site AlloCinéit received a nice spectator rating of 4.1/5.

Moreover, many Internet users share their opinions, and here is a selection of the most positive reviews: A masterpiece of fantastic cinema”, “Jack Arnold has created one of the most remarkable films on the theme of gigantism and dwarfism, a real gem of science fiction from the 1950s”, or even “This fable transcribed in the form of a B series is an essential film“.

It must be said that if the story is rather basic in its form, the production is on the contrary incredibly creative. The camera effects associated with the monstrous settings are wildly inventive, which gives us a (almost) timeless visual slap in the face.

After attracting ridicule from the whole country during the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup, will Jean Dujardin this time reconcile with the public? We keep our fingers crossed, especially since the sci-fi genre is not sufficiently highlighted in .
