A Prime Video film that works well…

Prime Video produces content in spades: films, series, documentaries, sometimes reality TV too… There is something for everyone. Among the most recent productions is Killer Heat, a feature film directed by Philippe Lacôte (Twelfth Night, Run) and which takes as its leading figure Nick Bali, an American private detective expatriated in Greece who will have to investigate the death of a shipping magnate. He is notably hired by the deceased’s sister, Penelope, and will quickly be confronted with the local power of the Vardakis family.

Between action, investigation and big casting – Jospeh Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Night Rises) in the title role, but also Shailene Woodley (Ferrari, Divergent) and Richard Madden (Games of Thrones) are to be declared – Killer Heat has all the makings of a big blockbuster that’s fun on a Sunday evening, with popcorn to back it up. And besides, it seduces sinceit rises to the top of audiences on Prime Video in no less than 83 countries. A joli score.

… but which fails in terms of criticism

Unfortunately, all is not rosy in terms of press feedback. On Rotten Tomatoes, Killer Heat gets a painful 19% score from specialist critics. “Killer Heat is a mystery that’s not mysterious and too familiar to stand out from anything else out there,” says Alex Maidy of JoBlo’s Movie Network. For the Guardian, journalist Benjamin Lee considers the film “forgettable” while the New York Times admits that “the twists and turns and pedestrian drama are hard to achieve, and Gordon-Levitt’s once-innate charisma is completely gone”. Outch.

As for Internet users, it’s a little better – or less worse, depending – with an average of 30%, with one viewer still saying “that it’s one of the worst films that he’s ever seen.” On Allociné, “Killer Heat” obtains an average of 2.3 stars out of 5 from spectators tand on Metacritic, Internet users give it a score of 5.8 out of 10.
