To the saga Chucky is going badly and the series created by Don Mancini with Brad Dourif and Zackary Arthur will pay the price.
2024 is another great year for horror cinema. Whether it’s big studio machines like Quietly: Day 1 (67 million production budget for 261 million worldwide revenue) and Alien : Romulus (80 million budget for 342 million at the worldwide box office), or more minimal productions such as Les Intrus (The Strangers: Chapter 1) (8.5 million budget for 47 million worldwide revenue) and Longlegs (9 million budget for 108 million at the worldwide box office): horror, it worksand that’s so much the better.
Chucky, end of an era
But success is not automatic. As evidence the cancellation of the series Chuckywith Brad Dourif (all films Chucky, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers) and Zackary Arthur (The 5th Wave, Kidding), after three seasons of existence. The news was shared by the Hollywood Reporterwith a press release written by the creator of the series, co-writer of the first film and director of three feature films ChuckyDon Mancini :
“I’m heartbroken by the news that Chucky won’t be returning for a fourth season, but I’m so grateful for the crazy three years we’ve had. I’d like to thank UCP, SYFY, Peacock, Eat the Cat, our awesome cast, our Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally our incredible fans: I’m giving you a big, bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky initiative has truly warmed Chucky’s cold heart. He will come back! He ALWAYS comes back. »
The second part of the third season of Chucky was broadcast last May, after a first part released in October 2023. The Syfy and USA Network series followed the adventures of the famous evil doll who plunged an idyllic American suburb into chaos. These three seasons were produced, among others, by Nick Antosca, the creator of the brilliant series Channel Zero et Brand New Cherry Flavor. As a reminder, the three seasons of Chucky are available in France on Apple TV+.
