‘Wild Robot’ Review: A Parental Love Story the Whole Family Will Enjoy

Director Chris Sanders, well known for excellent animated films Dragonslooks here with great tenderness at the parental ties making a robot (dubbed in the original version by Lupita Nyong’o and here by Naadei Lyonnais) an accidental mother.

The ROZZUM robot, nicknamed Roz, is a pure technological marvel. Created to meet any need, it is entirely at the service of the person who activates it. When Unit 7134 washes up on a desert island in a future Earth and is accidentally activated by animals, they don’t know what to do. No one gives her orders, she has no goal. She therefore begins to explore the place, to familiarize herself with the local flora, then the fauna.

And that’s when disaster strikes. Roz destroys a wild geese’s nest and only narrowly manages to save an egg. And when the egg hatches, Roz becomes the mother of the gosling Brightbill (voice of Kit Connor in the original version), guided by the wise advice of the mother opossum Pinktail (voice of Catherine O’Hara).

Visually, DreamWorks Studios renders the wilderness beautifully, the vibrant colors illuminating the screen. The animals are adorably rendered. How can you not fall in love with this endearing gosling who will adopt the robotic, and very amusing, language of Roz? We also really like the rhythmic storyline, the coherent twists and turns, and the youngest will appreciate the short duration, 102 minutes, which will prevent them from getting bored.

This splendid family tale often moves people, makes them laugh a lot and delivers a particularly effective message about the love that forever binds a parent and their child. Wild robot will, for sure, get an Oscar nomination. But will he be rewarded? To be continued.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Wild robot will please the whole family from September 27.
