A first trailer that sends heavy for Ballerina

It’s hard to be more iconic than the tetralogy. John Wick in terms of recent action movies. Thanks to a Keanu Reeves at the top of his game and with absolutely brilliant choreography, the four films have managed to create a loyal and more than enthusiastic audience. But while John Wick 4 seemed to announce the end of the saga, the universe that surrounds it continues to expand. Unfortunately, the series The Continental didn’t really convince many people, and the first feedback from the test screening of ”’Ballerina”’ wasn’t very complimentary either. But it took more than that to discourage Metropolitan Films and Lionsgate, who have just unveiled the first trailer of this famous spin-off (available in our automatic player).

As many fans began to fear for Ballerinathis first trailer could well reassure more than one. Indeed, we already find everything that made the tasty cocktail of the John Wick saga, namely an exciting universe, inspired choreographies, and artistic direction to die for. The trailer reveals a little more detail about the life of Eve Macarrothe new protagonist played by Ana de Armas. As expected, this is indeed a killer trained by the famous Ruska Roma school, the dance school that can be seen in the original saga and which also trained John Wick himself. But she is not the only person who is likely to please fans…

Will the insane cast be enough to make us forget John Wick?

If there’s one thing that we notice very quickly in this first trailer, it’s how much the casting is insane. The choice of Ana de Armas was already very good in itself, but we can also see that some iconic actors of the saga are back in their roles like Ian McShane (Winston), Anjelica Huston (The Director) and even Lance Reddick (Charon), who had filmed the scenes before his tragic death. As new actors, we will also be able to see Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) that we can’t wait to discover.

But the cherry on the cake of this very beautiful trailer is of course the presence of Baba Yaga herself. While we could have very well expected not to find her in this spin-off, Keanu Reeves will be there as a supporting character. As a reminder, the events of Ballerina will take place between episodes 3 and 4 of the original franchise. The film will be released in French theaters from June 4, 2025.
