How should the transport network reinvent itself over the next fifteen years to best meet your needs? This is what the Ministry of Mobility wants to try to find out to prepare its National Mobility Plan 2040. For this, the government has launched the Luxmobil 2025 study. “The previous survey dates back eight years. Since then, the situation has changed,” points out DP Minister of Mobility, Yuriko Backes.
Since 2017, in fact, Luxembourg has grown by 90,000 inhabitants and has 50,000 more cross-border workers. At the same time, the tram has developed, the RGTR network has been reorganized, motorways are being widened, teleworking has entered our lives…
In order to take stock of the country’s mobility habits and needs, the ministry commissioned Ilres to conduct a vast telephone survey of some 8,000 residents. “Answer them, please, take the time to answer the questions,” calls the minister.
Each questionnaire should last around twenty minutes. “They’ll ask how you got around yesterday. This includes every day of the week, including, for the first time, Saturday,” specifies the minister. “What are your habits, how you move, for what reasons… All this data is important to see how habits have evolved and adapt the offer to the needs of today and tomorrow.”
Beware of scammers
Respondents will also be asked about “their level of satisfaction with mobility today in Luxembourg,” explains Julien Schiebel, from the ministry. The composition of the household is also important to allow us to improve mobility for everyone, including children who are essential for us. Cross-border workers are naturally not forgotten. The French part of the investigation is already underway, and the Belgian and German parts are in preparation.
The ministry and Ilres have also decided to already pull the rug out from under the feet of scammers who could be inspired by this investigation to attempt a new scam. Please note that Ilres investigators will not ask you for personal identification such as your national registration number, nor for banking information or passwords. No payment will be requested from you. The survey is done entirely by phone, with randomly generated numbers, so if anyone comes to your door for this survey, they’re a scammer.
-Until the end of June
The survey begins this Tuesday and is scheduled to last until the end of June. While we analyze all of this, the results will be made public towards the end of the year. They will be used to develop the National Mobility Plan 2040, which will succeed the PNM 2035 currently being implemented. The minister hopes to “present it before the end of the current legislature”, which ends in 2028.
Ultimately, the Luxmobil 2025 survey should cost “more or less half a million euros”, according to Yuriko Backes. “It is not a huge cost compared to the 4 billion euros that we invest each year for mobility.”
