The return of Black Panther, a popular Marvel superhero, is setting the Internet ablaze following the emergence of a rumor that divides fans. Some hope it is false, others true.
In 2018, the Marvel Cinematic Universe welcomes a new superhero to its already vast stable. Black Pantheralias T’Challamakes his debut through a first film centered on him, before appearing in the team of Avengers a little later. It's the actor Chadwick Boseman who lends his features to the vigilante of Wakandaand very quickly, he made a place in the hearts of fans. Unfortunately, what was to be the start of a long collaboration ended abruptly. The actor died in 2020 from cancer that the public did not know existed.
Black Panther 2 still sees the light of day, but the film decides to have its hero die off-screen, while paying homage to him. The costume goes to Shuri (Lætitia Wright), T'Challa's sister. Fans therefore expect her to take up the torch in the following films, but obviously, that's not how Disney sees things. According to journalist Jeff Sneider, the American giant has a completely different plan.
Black Panther rumor has some fans furious
The man explains that Marvel is looking for its new Black Panther to replace Chadwick Boseman. Even if his version of the superhero would not be “erased”, a new T'Challa would arrive in the next films. Possibly in Avengers : Doomsday or Avengers : Secret Wars. The desire of the studios is real. Still according to Jeff Sneider, an actor he does not name was offered the role in the fall of 2024, but reportedly declined the offer.
Fan reactions oscillate between indignation and satisfaction. For some, it is too late, the studios should have presented a new actor from Black Panther 2. Others see it as an opportunity to introduce T'Challa's sonwhich we discover at the end of the film. Except he's still too young to put on the costume. Finally, some find that Marvel's decision is downright disrespectful to Chadwick Boseman. We will surely have to wait for Black Panther 3 to get the end of the story.
