Nowadays we constantly hear about artificial intelligence and its possibilities, and it's no surprise: more and more people are using these tools and platforms in their daily lives, whether for work or for everyday life. It is even common to use tools such as ChatGPT to plan vacations, for example.

The relationship we have today with artificial intelligence is closer than ever, since we can even converse with it. Twelve years ago, an excellent film gave us a glimpse of what our relationship with AI could be like, even with a romantic side, at least for the person involved. It is about Herthe Academy Award-winning film for Best Original Screenplay, which almost predicted the way we deal with technology today.

We say “almost” because, of course, our relationship and connection with artificial intelligence is not exactly the same as in Herbut the way we interact with AI is quite similar. Today, we can already ask questions to different AI systems in natural language, by conversing with them, and the AI will even remember our past conversations to take them into account in the context of our next interviews.

In HerTheodore Twombly, the character played masterfully by Joaquin Phoenix, is going through a difficult divorce and decides to purchase a copy of an artificial intelligence system designed to adapt and evolve based on its interactions with humans. The AI is called Samantha and is played by Scarlett Johansson.
The film shows how the relationship between Theodore and Samantha evolves and intensifies. Initially, Theodore was simply looking for company and chatting with this AI, in a curious way, but his bond with Samantha becomes much deeper and more intense, to the point of having all kinds of repercussions in his personal life.

Her is a romantic drama and dark comedy with science fiction elements. Certainly, one of the main characters is an artificial intelligence, but the film takes place in the very near future, with the obvious aim that the audience can more easily identify with the characters and their environment. In fact, some believe that in the future, people might fall in love with an AI.
