Blade Runner 2099 Series Reaches Milestone, Release Gets Closer

After several months without any news, we learn that the Blade Runner 2099 series is still on track. The spin-off is slated for release on Prime Video later this year.

Ryan Gosling dans Blade Runner 2049

The novel “Do androids dream of electric sheep?” by science fiction author Philip K. Dick is a monument of the genre. However, its title may not mean anything to you. On the other hand, the one from its first film adaptation by Ridley Scott in 1982 necessarily speaks to you: Blade Runner. The film featuring Harrisson Ford in his hunt for rebel replicants, androids who hide on Earth after their revolt, has become cult.

Although it inspired many subsequent works, it was only entitled to one feature-length sequel, Blade Runner 2049directed by Denis Villeneuve in 2017. Fans of the universe have not had much to eat since. Obviously, when Amazon announces that a Blade Runner series will see the light of day, the enthusiasm is immense. But between the American screenwriters’ strike in 2023 and the need to change filming locations, delays are piling up and silence surrounds the production. The latter is now broken.

Blade Runner 2099 is on track, release on Prime Video is approaching

It’s official: Filming for the Blade Runner 2099 series has finished. The teams will therefore be able to move on to the post-production stage. As a reminder, the story will take place 50 years after the events of the second film, and therefore 80 years after those of the first, so the action takes place in 2019.

Michelle Yeoh will embody a replicant at the end of his life. She will meet Cora (Hunter Schafer), a chameleon on the run forced to regularly change her identity to survive. Joining forces, the two characters will find themselves embroiled in a large-scale conspiracy.

The rest of the cast is also known: Tom Burke, Katelyn Rose Downey, Amy Lennox, Maurizio Lombardi, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, Daniel Rigby, Johnny Harris, Matthew Needham and Sheila Atim will be there. Jonathan van Tullekento whom we owe the excellent series Shogun sur Disney+will direct the 10 episodes of Blade Runner 2099. They will be released on Prime Video sometime in 2025.
