“A little thing in addition” was the film with the most admissions in France, ahead of “The Count of Monte Cristo”. It even ranks in the top 10 in the history of French cinema.
This hasn't happened since the release of “Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au bon Dieu”, this year the most seen film in cinemas in France is not an American blockbuster but a production French. And what's more, a film with a relatively modest budget (6.1 million euros). “A little thing in addition” attracted 10.8 million spectators, a level that very few French films have managed to reach.
Among the greatest successes in the history of French cinema, “Un p'tit truc en plus” ranks ninth, just behind “Le Corniaud” (11.7 million admissions) and ahead of Taxi 2 (10 .3 million entries). A very good performance for a film which cost seven times less to produce than “The Count of Monte Cristo”, the other success of the year in France with 9.3 million admissions.
What are the most viewed French films in 2024?
More than 100 million dollars in revenue for the “Count of Monte Christo”
The second most seen film in cinemas has also managed to appeal outside France. With more than $100 million in worldwide revenue, it surpasses “The Visitors” ($98.8 million), while remaining very far from Intouchables ($426.5 million) or “Lucy” ( 469 million dollars).
Among the other French successes of the year, there is also “L'Amour Ouf”. With 4.7 million admissions, Gilles Lellouche's film rose to fifth place, placing three French films in the top 10 of the year. We can also highlight the great performance of the biopic “Mr Aznavour” which with more than two million admissions is the twelfth most viewed film of the year… at the cinema.
Because if we look at films that were not released in theaters but only on video-on-demand platforms, 2024 will have been marked by unprecedented success for a French film on Netflix. Posted online at the beginning of June – eight weeks before the Paris Olympics – “Sous la Seine” has been viewed more than 102 million times.
