French cinema at the party: discover the 2024 box office figures
While the 2023 box office was generally dominated by American blockbusters and Hollywood productions, this time the French took their revenge on the country of Uncle Sam. Cocorico! Indeed, the year 2024 was marked by the gigantic surprise success of Artus' comedy, A little something extra which finished at the top of the ranking by reaching the symbolic bar of 10 million entries. In second position, another French production which was just as talked about, accumulating 9.3 million admissions: Le Comte de Monte Cristoan epic rereading of the work of Alexandre Dumas carried by an immense Pierre Niney, interviewed by Tele-Leisure for the occasion. Note also the presence at the foot of the podium of Phew Love by Gilles Lellouche, an ambitious romantic fresco, as tragic as it is sensitive, carried by a choice cast: Adèle Exarchopoulos, François Civil, Alain Chabat, Benoît Poelvoorde but also the revelations Mallory Wanecque, Malik Frikah.
American cinema responds to the 2024 box office
Despite the exceptional success of French cinema for this 2024 vintage, Hollywood, like every year, is never far away. Indeed, the rest of the top 10 is dominated by American productions. Spectators also gave pride of place to animated cinema. For example, Vice-Versa 2 from Pixar Studios comes in third place with 8.4 million admissions. Franco-American production, Despicable Me 4 (4.5 million entries) is in 5th place. A month after its release, Vaiana 2 is already firmly established in the top ten positions. With the Christmas holidays, there is no doubt that the Disney representative should end his career in the top five places. On the blockbuster side, Dune 2 by Denis Villeneuve prances in 7th place while Deadpool & Wolverine is in 8th place. Gladiator II (9th) and Planet of the Apes: the new kingdom (10th), close the top 10 of the French box office 2024.
