In the Marvel universe, the vast majority of superheroes have been, directly or indirectly, for a long time or fleetingly, members of the Avengers. There are few characters who have not joined the ranks of this cult team. However, we managed to find 8 iconic superheroes who were never members of the Avengers.
8) Howard the Duck
The degenerate duck of the Marvel Universe was never a member of the Avengers. It's a shame, because it eccentric and ostentatious character would bring a little good humor to the overly serious team of Avengers. It would make it possible to propose a your most offbeatfunnier, and frankly lighter than the always very serious wanderings of Captain America et Iron Man. And since Rocket Raccoon was an Avenger, why not Howard the Duck?
7) Betta Ray Bill
Betta Ray Bill is a fascinating character, known for being one of the few characters in the Marvel Universe who is worthy of lifting Mjolnir. Created in 1983, Betta Ray Bill is a Korbinite alien, whose home planet was destroyed by Surt The Korbinites chose Beta Ray Bill to become their champion and protect their people during their exodus to a new home. When in possession of Mjolnir, Betta Ray Bill is almost as powerful as Thor. The two thunder gods are very close and are faithful allies. As for Betta Ray Bill, he has a self-sacrifice for peace and unfailing justice. He would have been a perfect replacement for Thor in the team of Avengers during his absences. And yet, Betta Ray Bill was never an Avengers…
6) Punisher
It's a little more logical than Punisher never became a Avengers. Because of his violent methods, his radicalism, his lack of tact and emotion, the Punisher is undoubtedly the anti-hero par excellence. Frank Castle was never called upon by the Avengers. Worse, he is a character little appreciated by his peers, who consider him, for the most part, to be a complete psycho. Some even distrust him, which explains why neither Captain America nor Iron Man have ever called on him. It is often judged as too unpredictable and too dangerous, and yet, even Deadpool has my membership card…
5) Charles Xavier
And yes, the leader of the X-Men was never a member of the Avengers. And yet, there have been a lot of mutants who have become Avengers. Wolverine, The Beast, Malicia, The Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Tornado, Deadpool, Gambit and even Magneto have all been Avengers over time. And yet, the Professor has always been left aside. In fact, it's mostly Xavier himself who doesn't want to be an Avenger. He's already too busy with his X-Men and defending the mutant cause to give his precious time to the Avengers.
4) Ghost Rider
So of course, Robbie Reyes was an Avenger. But regarding Johnny Stormthe Ghost Rider origineland even today the most convincing (by far) he was never a member of the Avengers. Yet, despite his curse and his obligation to punish the wicked, Johnny Storm is clearly not a bad person. He has an excellent background and is even a hero with a big heart. But his pact with Mephisto forces him to serve the demonic forces of Hell, even if he only attacks individuals guilty of extremely serious misdeeds. In any case, Johnny Storm was never invited to the Avengers table, and yet it could be very beneficial for him.
3) Jean Grey
Jean Grey nor was she ever invited to the Avengers. However, it is a central heroine of the Marvel universe. Extremely powerful, she is capable of defeating just about any enemy single-handedly. Maybe it's the strength of Phoenix that lies dormant within her which worries the Avengers. Maybe they already have enough to do with the terrible Red Witchwhose emotional imbalance recurring is a danger for the rest of humanity. Two powerful, unstable mutants on the same team might be a lot.
2) Cyclops
As Jean Grey et Charles Xavier, Scott Summers was never invited to join the Avengers. And yet, like his two colleagues, he is a flagship character in the Marvel universe. He would therefore totally have his place within the greatest superhero team. No doubt because of his overflowing charisma and his leadership too presentcharacters like Captain and Iron Man refused to invite him to avoid overshadowing each other.
1) The Silver Surfer
If he was a member of Defenders with Hulk et Dr Strangethe Silver Surfer never joined the ranks of Avengers. And it's frankly incomprehensible when we see the power of such a character. Certainly, the Silver Surfer is often somewhere in a distant galaxy rather than on Earth. But he would undoubtedly have been an excellent supporting character for the Avengers. Give him his membership card!
