The plot of Spider-Man 4 is slowly starting to reveal itself. It would be essentially based on the comic books of the Spider-Man 24/7 arc.
After a trilogy which concluded in apotheosis at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021, Tom Holland is preparing to play Spider-Man again for a fourth film, which is named for Spider-Man 4 at the moment, while waiting to know the official name. Filming is scheduled to begin in summer 2025, with a theatrical release scheduled for July 2026.
As the deadline approaches, Amy Pascal, producer of the last two films and who will also be for the next one, gave an interview to Deadline. During this interview, she gives us some keys to the plot of this Spider-Man 4 and what we can expect from the feature film.
Spider-Man 24/7 as the basis for the plot of Spider-Man 4
As a reminder, after messing with the multiverse, Peter Parker asked Doctor Strange to erase from collective memories who he is. Not only does no one remember that he’s Spider-Man anymore, but everyone has forgotten who Peter Parker is, including his closest allies, including his girlfriend MJ.
“We have to accept the fact that he decided to abandon his role as Peter Parker and focus on Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard”explains Amy Pascal, who adds that the plot of the film revolves precisely around these premises. We can therefore conclude that Spider-Man 4 will be heavily inspired by the arc Spider-Man 24/7 from issues 592 to 594 of The Amazing Spider-Man comic books.
In the comic book storyline, we find Norman Osborn (the Green Goblin) and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. The latter made her appearance in the MCU with Falcon and the Winter Soldier and will be there in Thunderbolts, which comes out in April 2025, so there is a good chance that she will also be in Spider-Man 4. For the Green Goblin, nothing is less certain as this antagonist has already been exploited by the franchise in the cinema.
A few weeks ago, Tom Holland revealed that he had received the script for Spider-Man 4. “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and at times we were jumping around the living room.”he testified, ensuring that the film will be worthy of the respect of fans. We will be able to judge for ourselves in about 18 months.
