The Max platform welcomes two new Lord of the Rings films. Content available for the first time in streaming. No, we’re not talking about Peter Jackson’s trilogies, but two animated films released in the 1970s. This only concerns the United States for the moment.
From Lord of the Rings, we especially know Peter Jackson’s two trilogies as well as the Amazon Prime series. However, there are other adaptations, including two animated films released in the 1970s. They’re now available for streaming for the first time ever, and it’s happening on Max. A small event for hardcore fans… but which currently only concerns the United States.
Warner has indeed obtained the distribution rights to these two films. Blessed bread for fans of the license, who will be able to occupy the long December evenings in Middle-earth.

Mac streams Lord of the Rings films overshadowed by Peter Jackson
The first of two films is soberly called the Lord of the Rings, and it is the one with the most notoriety. Directed by Ralph Bakshi in 1978, it was the first film adaptation of Tolkien’s novel. He is best known for his use of rotoscoping, a technique which consists of filming actors and then redrawing over them. This feature film of more than two hours retraces (at high speed) the events of The Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers. What’s next? She doesn’t exist. The Lord of the Rings experienced a commercial failure upon its release and the adventure ended there. It remains interesting entertainment.

The second film is a little more obscure. Released in 1977, it is an adaptation of the novel The Hobbit for American television. Again, this is the first time it has been visible in streaming. We don’t know when these two films will arrive in France on Max, but we can hope that Warner will release them soon. We remind you that in France, the Lord of the Rings films directed by Peter Jackson are not on Max, but on Amazon Prime.
Warner wants to bet on Middle Earth to seduce. In addition to new live-action films in preparation, an animated film will be released in theaters in the coming days: The Rohirrim War.
