Abe careful, tidal wave: in just five days, Vaiana 2 has already delighted an impressive total of 2.27 million young spectators in 647 cinemas! This is more than double the first opus (1.06 million admissions at start in 2016) and it is also the best launch of all time for an animated film in France ahead of Frozen 2 (1.98 million admissions in 2019). This craze is spreading everywhere with the same magnitude, the production raking in, with 386.3 million dollars (including 221 million for the United States alone), the largest total worldwide revenue ever obtained by an animated film. In short, Disney is out to take over the Christmas holidays, especially since Mufasa : The Roi lion will be released on December 18…
Drums and trumpets also for A fanfare, which takes second place in the weekly ranking with 364,000 curious people in 629 theaters at the end of its first weekend. This is the seventh score for a French film in 2024 and the best launch for its director, Emmanuel Courcol, ahead of A triumph (119,000 entries in 2021). Praised by its first spectators, the social comedy, performed by the excellent duo Benjamin Lavernhe-Pierre Lottin, will undoubtedly be carried in the weeks to come by a significant word-of-mouth phenomenon. Enough to aim for at least 2 million and thus enter the annual top 5 French films.

Third start of the week, Heretic scared 74,000 followers on 256 screens. Without really breaking the house, it’s a decent score for this horror film with a counter-usual Hugh Grant. On the other hand, Christmas balls only made 66,000 people laugh despite being broadcast in 350 cinemas. In the arthouse register, Grand Tour, Best Director Award at Cannes, attracted 21,000 moviegoers in 103 theaters. This is the second best start for its Portuguese director, Miguel Gomes, not far behind that of Taboo (27 000 entrées).
Riding the wave Vaiana 2, cinemas sold a total of 4 million tickets in five days, the best score of the year. So the delay over last year is almost made up, and the month which begins should exceed December 2023.
