‘Inside Out 2’ Becomes Fifth Highest-Grossing Animated Film of All Time

“Inside Out 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the first installment released in 2015, became the fifth highest-grossing animated film of all time this weekend.

“Inside Out 2” has reached a new milestone. In theaters since mid-June, the highly anticipated sequel to “Inside Out” has entered the top 5 highest-grossing animated films of all time, after its fourth week of release.

The feature film grossed just over $78 million at the global box office this weekend, and has now reached $1.22 billion (1.13 billion euros) in cumulative receipts worldwide, according to figures from Variety magazine.

An excellent performance which, in addition to its status as the biggest film of 2024 already won at the end of June, allows it to take fifth place among the most lucrative animated films, dethroning “Minions”, the previous title holder, with 1.15 billion dollars at the global box office.

Frozen 2 still in the lead

“Inside Out 2” is still trailing behind “The Incredibles 2,” released in 2018 and its $1.24 billion in revenue. The first installment of “Frozen,” which grossed $1.28 billion at the global box office, is in third place, preceded by “Super Mario Bros. The Movie,” released last year, in second place with $1.35 billion in revenue. “Frozen 2” remains the most lucrative animated film to date, accumulating $1.45 billion at the global box office. This ranking does not take into account the release in 2019 of the remake of “The Lion King,” made using computer-generated images.

For the record, “Inside Out 2”, in theaters in France since June 19, explores new emotions. At the forefront is anxiety, which young Riley faces as she faces puberty. Last Wednesday, the Disney Pixar film had accumulated 3.8 million admissions in France.
