My name is Bond
Since the creation of the character, several actors have marked the history of James Bond. Sean Connerythe first to play 007 in Dr. No (1962), defined the charismatic hero and became a reference for subsequent generations. George Lazenbydespite only one film (On Her Majesty's Secret Service, 1969), left a lasting impression. Roger Moorewith seven films to his credit, adopted a lighter, more humorous tone in the '70s and '80s. Timothy Dalton brought a darker touch, while Pierce Brosnanmodernized Bond. Daniel Craig, meanwhile, redefined the character in 2006 with Casino Royale, adding depth and vulnerability. Although his performance peaked with No Time to Die (2021), Daniel Craig is not proud of all his performances, admitting that this film was the worst of that era
The worst agent
In 2006, Casino Royale marked a revolution in the James Bond franchise. With Daniel Craig in the role of 007, the character has been reinvented with a whole new sensibility, but keeping Bonf's iconic strengths. The FILMSTARTS community voted it the second best James Bond adventure, and the official review gave it 4.5 stars out of 5 and confirmed its status as a near-masterpiece. On Rotten TomatoesCasino Royale garnered 94% positive reviews, and 90% of spectators approved it, making it one of the most acclaimed entries in the saga.
However, Quantum of Solacereleased in 2008, failed to maintain this level of excellence. Mainly impacted by difficult production circumstances, the film was shot in the middle of a writers' strike, while the script was still unfinished. The director Marc Forster also pointed to insufficient time given to post-production, resulting in a film that was frayed and lacking the elegance and polish of Casino Royale. Daniel Craig himself admitted in an interview with Empire that he didn't deliver his best performance due to the chaos on set: “Filming Quantum of Solace was a disaster to say the least, and all the weight slowed me down. » This experience nevertheless served as a lesson to the producers, who took more time to develop the next film. The result was Skyfall (2012)widely hailed as one of Bond's best opuses and the first to cross the symbolic billion-dollar mark at the box office. Daniel Craig then continued to play 007 in two more films, concluding his run in 2021 with No Time to Die. As for his successor, the mystery remains.
