Several Lord of the Rings films are in preparation, original actors could return!

The Lord of the Rings will return to the cinema and even as early as 2024. After The Hobbit, other films are in preparation, with the possible return of certain original actors.

Twenty years later, Lord of the Rings remains one of the most popular film franchises in the world, and one of the most lucrative. Peter Jackson’s adaptation remains praised by JRR Tolkien fans, and the trilogy continues to live on through re-watchings or special screenings. After the saga The Hobbit and the series The Rings of Powerother projects around the universe of JRR Tolkien are in preparation. And especially films!

One of them is coming out at the end of 2024: The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim will trace the story of the King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and immerse fans in one of the battles that shaped Middle-earth, 200 years before the adventures of Frodo and his friends. Miranda Otto, who played Éowyn, will return to narrate the story.

It is on December 11, 2024 that fans will be able to discover this new feature-length adventure film, which will have the particularity of being an animated film unlike other adaptations. If successful, screenwriter Phillipa Boyens announced that a second animated film around the Lord of the Rings could see the light of day.

But this is not the only film around Lord of the Rings which is currently in the pipeline. Andy Serkis, unforgettable Gollum, will direct the next feature film dedicated to his character and play the protagonist. Titled The Hunt for Gollumthe film will take place after Bilbo’s party and before the Battle of the Mines of Moria. The film could possibly be released in 2026.

If Andy Serkis is back, it is not impossible that Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf in the original trilogy, will reprise the role of the gray mage. The actor knew that he was not against the idea of a return if the scenario is up to par, and he is not the only one: Orlando Bloom, who plays the elf Legolas in the trilogy of 20th century, also mentioned this possibility.

Even more nebulous, there could be a third feature film centered on Gandalf. For the moment, this remains at the speculation stage, and we do not yet know with certainty whether it will take place, nor on what date, nor even if Ian McKellen will indeed be part of the adventure, even if he has heard about the project and says he is ready to come back, again if the quality of the scenario is there. What is certain is that Lord of the Rings still has a bright future ahead of him in cinemas!
