The third part of the Venom films, “The Last Dance”, did not do as well for its release as the first two installments of the series but still enough to take the lead in the North American box office, according to projections Sunday from the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.

With 51 million dollars between Friday and Sunday, “Venom: The Last Dance” comes a long way, for example, from the 96 million garnered in 2021 by “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” but its release coincided with the start of the highly anticipated finale of the North American baseball championship between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees, two particularly popular teams.

Once again, Tom Hardy takes on the role of a dissatisfied journalist who transforms into a terrifying, sharp-toothed alien, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple and Rhys Ifans.

A few days before Halloween, the traditional horror movie season is in full swing in North America. “Smile 2”, from Paramount Studios and starring Naomi Scott, recorded $40.7 million, losing a small place in the rankings.

“Conclave”, a film which narrates the election of a new pope entrusted to an intriguing and ambitious cardinal played by Ralph Fiennes, raised 6.5 million dollars (3rd).

In this feature film which is starting to be talked about for a possible Oscar for best film, Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow also play cardinals and Isabella Rossellini a determined nun. The film directed by Edward Berger (“Nothing New in the West”) is based on a book of the same name by British novelist Robert Harris.

“The Wild Robot”, an animated film from Universal and DreamWorks, fell two places and arrived in fourth place with 6.5 million dollars when “Love in the Present”, from StudioCanal with Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh , remains in 5th place with 4.8 million.

Here is the rest of the top 10:

6. “Terrify 3” ($4.8 million)

7. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (3,2 millions)

8. “Anora” (867,000)

9. “Piece by Piece” (720.000)

10. “Transformers: The Beginning” (720,000)
