After the failure of Where did the Morgans go? With Sarah Jessica Parker, Hugh Grant thought he had to draw a line under his career. In the end, his role in a science fiction film allowed him to get back into the limelight, much to his relief.

Hugh Grant, 64, has now enjoyed a 42-year career. Like all actors, he has nevertheless had difficult periods, when his popularity rating was not at its highest. In a recent interview with Vanity Fairhe particularly remembers the aftermath Where did the Morgans go? (Did You Hear About the Morgans ? in English), a comedy released in 2009 in which he starred opposite Sarah Jessica Parker and Sam Elliott. A real critical and commercial failure, the film dealt a serious blow to Hugh Grant’s career. The actor even thought he would have to hang up his hat, until Lana and Lilly Wachowski offered him a role in the science fiction film Cloud Atlas.

Hugh Grant grateful for being recruited into Cloud Atlas

During this interview, Hugh Grant confides that he experienced a difficult period after Where did the Morgans go? “I had been deserted” he admits. “The Wachowskis only offered me a couple of small roles in Cloud Atlas, and to be honest, they probably only offered it to me because some of their international distributors said, ‘We need more recognizable names. Put someone recognizable in here.'” The actor is thus convinced that he was not one of the directors’ first choices.but that his name was well-known enough to attract viewers. Hugh Grant nevertheless remains grateful for having played in Cloud Atlassince it allowed him to test himself on roles different from what he was used to doing.

In 2023, Hugh Grant starred in Dungeons & Dragons: Thieves’ Honora film by Jonathan Goldstein (XII) and John Francis Daley.
