Make way for aesthetics. We start with a chic Honkgonkais “parade”, we move on to two painters, we end with photography. Plus: vintage indie cinema.

If you are part of the sentimental crowd, this film is bound to touch your heart. Here everything is just touches, sketches, virtualities: that of a love between a man and a woman, in the humidity of Hong Kong, in 1962. Stunning, like the waltz that punctuates these crossovers.

At 9:05 p.m. on France 5. Film directed by Wong Kar-wai (Hong Kong/Fr, 2000). With Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung. Rebroadcast.

A cousinship between Edward Hopper and Johannes Vermeer? Damn, this is an exciting hypothesis! As erudite as it is perfectly clear, this documentary reveals all kinds of motifs, expressions, luminous tones, between these two painters attracted by the border between the interior and the exterior.

At 10:50 p.m. on France 5. Documentary by Annie Dautane (France, 2023). Unpublished.

Following a public commission in 2021, two hundred photographers traveled across France to bring back a vast composite portrait. Several photos by seven artists (Aglaé Bory, Lucien Lung, Olivia Gay, etc.) are selected and commented on by the authors. A unique vision of France on the move.

At 8:30 p.m. on LCP-National Assembly. Magazine presented by Sophie Varillon (France, 2024). Unpublished.

Insomniac bonus: “It’s shooting in Manhattan”

A little “nineties” gem of independent cinema. Which recounts the chaotic shooting of a low-budget film, between director at the end of his rope, useless or capricious actors, little hands demeaned. With a great number from Steve Buscemi, as a filmmaker under pressure.

At 8:50 p.m. on TCM Cinema. Film directed by Tom DiCillo (USA, 1995). With Steve Buscemi, Catherine Keener, Delmot Mulroney. Rebroadcast.
