This is very welcome news that we welcome today: The Jokers will offer in French cinemas, from this summer, a new restored full 4K version of one of the greatest films of the Japanese seventh art: The 7 Samurai.

Directed in 1954 by the legendary Akira Kurosawa, this emblematic film, lasting almost three and a half hours, had a profound impact on the history of world cinema. “The 7 Samurai” tells the epic tale of seven samurai hired to defend a peasant village against bandits. This feature film is often considered one of the greatest films ever made, thanks to its innovative narrative structure, richly developed characters and impressive battle scenes. He influenced generations of filmmakers, including George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola.

This new version restored in 4K was produced with the greatest care by the prestigious Tōhō studios. The images and sounds were digitized by Aarriscan and Sondor Resonances respectively. This restoration was specially designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the film’s first Japanese release.

Before making its re-release in France, The 7 Samurai (1954) was presented in world premiere in its new version at Cannes, as part of the selection 2024 Cannes Classics. For the general public, the appointment is July 3, 2024 to rediscover the work in the comfort of dark rooms.

We’re obviously crossing our fingers for an upcoming release in France in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. To be followed closely…
