It’s the start of summer, at least from an American box office perspective. Summer blockbusters have started to be released across the Atlantic, and success is not there for everyone. While Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom made a sensational entry at the box office, The Fall Guy does not meet the expectations of the studios.

A franchise that does not tire

The primates of The Planet of the Apes continue to fascinate the general public. For its first weekend in theaters, the new opus of the franchise, subtitled the new kingdom and directed by Wes Ball, has collected 56.5 million dollars in the United States, and 72.5 million abroad, for a worldwide total which currently stands at 129 million.

The feature film starring Owen Teague, Freya Allan and Kevin Durand is thus positioned as the second best start to the franchise in North America. A nice move for a film which aims to relaunch the saga of The Planet of the Apes and seems to show that the public does not necessarily tire of franchises.

The Fall Guy falling

For its second weekend of operation, the film The Fall Guy, with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, remains far from making sparks at the box office. He occupies second place on the podium, with the addition of 13.7 million dollars to his piggy bank, for a cumulative total of 49.7 million since his release; figures which remain below what the Universal studio hoped for.

While for its release, Universal was targeting a revenue range of between $32 and $35 million, The Fall Guy only managed to get 27.7 million on the American continent. Down 51% in 10 days, the action comedy continues to disappoint the studio.

Zendaya still on top

In third place at the box office, the film Challengers with Zendaya continues to achieve great success. If its figures fell a little for its third weekend of release, the feature film which mixes tennis and eroticism is still at 38.4 million in receipts in the United States and 68.7 million across the world.

The horror movie Tarotreleased at the same time as The Fall Guy across the Atlantic, occupies fourth place at the box office. Its second weekend in theaters brought in $3.4 million, bringing its domestic revenue to $12 million to date. Abroad, he has so far accumulated $8.2 million.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire closes this top 5. After six weeks in theaters, the film from Legendary and Warner Bros. added 2.6 million dollars to its bag, for a total which now stands at 190 million in the United States, where the studios hope it will cross the 200 million mark. Worldwide, the film has grossed more than $558 million.
