Fans of the “Lord of the Rings” saga will be delighted! The CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery has just announced excellent news that should delight Middle-earth aficionados.

Big news for Lord of the Rings fans! After the animated film War of the Rohirrim (in theaters December 11), the saga will return in live action in 2026! David Zaslav, president of Warner Bros. Discoveryhas confirmed the start of work on a live action feature film entitled Hunt for Gollum.

Gollum is back!

The film will be directed by Andy Serkis himself, who plays Gollum in the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy. For the occasion, the actor will once again slip into his performance capture costume to play the famous character who accompanied Sam and Frodo to Mordor.

If Andy Serkis is involved, Peter Jackson will also be involved as producer; his lifelong accomplices, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, will write the screenplay with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. Suffice to say that Hunt fot Gollum is in good hands.

“It is an honor and privilege to return to Middle-earth with our friend and collaborator, Andy Serkis, who is not done with this Gollum plague! As long-time fans of the Professor’s vast mythology Tolkien, we are proud to work with Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and the entire team at Warner Bros. on a new epic adventure”said Jackson, Walsh and Boyens.

My precious!

For his part, Andy Serkis is also very enthusiastic: “Yesssss, my precious. The time has come to venture once again into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle Earth Peter, Fran and Philippa. With Mike and Pam, as well as the team at Warner Bros, alongside WETA and our creative family in New Zealand, it’s just too delicious.”

David Zaslav clarified that the film Hunt for Gollum will explore stories “that have yet to be told. Harry Potter and the DC Universe are vastly under-exploited franchises. We are working hard to fix that”, he insisted. This new chapter of the Lord of the Rings license in cinema should arrive in cinemas in 2026.

For the moment, the work is in the writing phase. A second Lord of the Rings film is also in the pipeline with the involvement of Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The monumental fresco created by JRR Tolkien still has a bright future ahead of it in the cinema.

As a reminder, Peter Jackson’s first trilogy grossed $3 billion at the box office and won 17 Oscars. As for The Hobbit, it collected 2 billion in 3 films. While waiting for the Hunt for Gollum to begin, The War of the Rohirrim will begin on December 11 in cinemas.
