It’s perhaps the most anticipated film of the year. In competition during the 77th Cannes Film Festival, “Megalopolis” by Francis Ford Coppola is revealed in a first teaser.

It’s the project of a lifetime. Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”, “Apocalypse Now”) went so far as to mortgage part of his vineyard to finalize the production of “Megalopolis” with the announced budget of 100 million dollars. What does this “Roman epic tell in an imaginary modern America in full decadence”? The conflict between Caesar Catilina, a genius artist with the power to stop time, and the arch-conservative mayor Franklyn Cicero.

The first dreams of an ideal utopian future while the second remains very attached to a regressive status quo protective of greed, privilege and private militias. The mayor’s daughter and jet-setter Julia Cicero, in love with César Catilina, is torn between the two men and will have to discover what seems best for the future of humanity.

No French release date

So much for the enigmatic synopsis of a film with a pharaonic cast composed of Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grave Vanderwaal, Kathryn Hunter and Dustin Hoffman. The trailer was posted online on the birthday of the master’s wife, Eleanor, who died a few days ago.
