Available on Netflix, the film “Knock at the Cabin” by M. Night Shyamalan depicts the nightmare of a family trapped by four individuals.

Among the recent thrillers that have left their mark, we think of Knock at the Cabin, the latest film by M. Night Shyamalan, known, among other things, for his twists. Here, he adapts a 2018 horror novel, The Cabin at the End of the Worldby Paul Tremblay.

The story follows Eric and Andrew, both fathers of a little girl, Wen. On a weekend in a chalet in the middle of a forest, they are attacked by four individuals – two men, two women – before being tied up. The foreigners present themselves as messengers who have come to announce the end of the world. To avoid the apocalypse, the little family must sacrifice one of their own.

It is on this postulate that we begin Knock at the Cabin, a sort of behind closed doors interspersed with several flashbacks which will flesh out the plot and the characters. With this film, M. Night Shyamalan plays with the audience by plunging them into uncertainty. Is the warning real or is it manipulation?

Same-sex parenthood plays an important role in the story. The four individuals are presented as religious extremists likely to plan a homophobic attack. However, several events throughout the film fuel doubt.

Knock at the Cabin is a contemporary thriller, as disturbing as it can be moving. Above all, it shows actors in a different register, this is notably the case of Dave Bautista and Rupert Grint, emblematic Ron in the Harry Potter saga, both terrifying.

Like many M. Night Shyamalan films, Knock at the Cabin makes you think, especially at its ending which should get subscribers talking.

Knock at the Cabin is available on Netflix.
