Do you know the obscure science fiction film “Cyborg 2”, released in 1993? Frankly forgettable, it nevertheless has a certain interest since it marks the real screen debut of Angelina Jolie!
Many stars have had somewhat haphazard professional debuts by appearing in the casting of improbable naughties, such as Leonardo DiCaprio confronted by alien hairballs or Jennifer Aniston confronting an Irish leprechaun. An artistically mediocre first step but, in hindsight, frankly amusing.
Angelina Jolie is one of those Hollywood stars who began her career with a film of frankly approximate quality. After a very small role in Hal Ashby’s Lookin’ to Get Out, the young American played the main role in the obscure Cyborg 2 in 1993. A SF film which is none other than the sequel to Cyborg led by Jean-Claude Van Damme, but with a completely renewed cast.
Cyborg 2 immerses the viewer in the future, in 2074. The role ofAngelina Jolie, only 17 years old when she made the film? That of Casella “Cash” Reese, a robot woman created to infiltrate rival companies thanks to her charms and then transform into a bomb. But Cash begins to have feelings and falls in love with a soldier specializing in martial arts….
“When I saw the film, I vomited”
What a look Angelina Jolie does it relate to this Cyborg 2 directly released on the video market and which fortunately did not deal a fatal blow to his career? We will politely say that she is not particularly a fan of this film, the trailer of which you can watch below.
“When I saw the film, I vomited. I felt nauseous”the actress bluntly declared in 2014 on the Buzzfeed website. “I was 17, I found myself making a real film but it was strange, because there was a scene where my character is decapitated and speaks… When I saw Cyborg 2it made me really sick, but it was a film that allowed me to do kickboxing, and that was fun.” At least that’s a win!
