After the draw against Strasbourg at home this Sunday, OM once again criticized refereeing decisions deemed unfavorable to the club. A feeling of incomprehension fueled by an accumulation of errors perceived to the disadvantage of the Marseillais. However, within the club, some question the leaders' offensive strategy to protect the interests of OM.
During the draw against Strasbourgl’ABOUT expressed his dissatisfaction after a contentious refereeing decision regarding a possible penalty on Jonathan Rowe. Florent Germaincorresponding RMC Sport in charge of theMarseille Olympicdiscussed this subject in the show Rothen ignites : “OM’s outings on the arbitration on Sunday? It is an accumulation of contentious decisions which made Pablo Longoria decide to speak out. It was quite striking on Sunday. All the players delivered the same speech: it's always against us, the locker room is asking questions. »
An accumulation of errors?
This feeling of feeling wronged by the arbitration stems, according to some, from a series of repeated errors to the disadvantage of theABOUT. Florent Germain specifies: “It started, initially, with a second yellow card for Cornelius during the match against Nice, where OM tried to have this yellow card canceled. In the process, there was Lyon – Marseille with the express red card for Balerdi, as well as the suspension of Medhi Benatia, sanctioned for 6 matches, 3 of which were suspended. »
He adds: “It started with clashes between OM and the referees, and they multiplied. Controversial decisions have marked OM: an alleged foul on Højbjerg in Ligue 1 against Lille, a penalty not awarded on Jonathan Rowe in the Coupe de France, and, very recently, a handball from Murillo which led to a penalty against OM in Rennes. Subsequently, the arbitration management recognized that this decision was an error. »
-“We need more dialogue”
“So, indeed, it is an accumulation, but also a strategy of OM which was assumed at the start of the season”explain Florent Germain. However, this strategy divides internally. Some believe that the club should adopt a more diplomatic approach towards the refereeing body. Florent Germain specifies: “Marseille said that they no longer wanted to let anything go after having been too conciliatory. It was now over. Except that at OM, we wonder if this strategy does not turn against the club. »
He also reports the comments of certain people within the Marseille board, who advocate a different approach:“Some internal members, like Fabrizio Ravanelli, think that there needs to be more dialogue and diplomacy with the referees rather than systematically opting for conflict. »
