Jorge Martín unambitious for 2025 with Aprilia

Before winning the MotoGP world championship for the first time, Jorge Martín took a risky gamble. In 2025, the Spaniard became an Aprilia rider. Swapping the most competitive bike in the field for the one that only won one race last year, Aprilia's RS-GP.

A decision that the Spaniard, however, took when he was at an impasse. In June, he learned that it was Marc Marquez who would have the second official Ducati handlebar, and already knew that Pramac, his former team, was preparing to divorce Borgo Panigale, to join Aprilia.

To avoid joining a manufacturer in great difficulty, he was able to count on the support of his great friend, Aleix Espargaró, to guide him towards the Aprilia factory team. A situation which allowed him, among other things, to realize his dream of becoming an official pilot.

The challenge he is about to take on fully motivates him, although the victories will become rarer. Ducati's squad will be reduced to six machines this campaign, but the Desmosedici GP25 is still tipped to dominate the season.

“If I had continued with a Ducati, the objective would have been the same, to give the best of myself, confides Jorge Martín in the Spanish podcast I have a plan. But obviously, I'm racing for the victory, because I'm ready for it. Now I don't know how the new bike is doing. »

Jorge Martín pessimistic for 2025?

The reigning world champion had the opportunity to discover the Aprilia during pre-season testing organized in Barcelona, the day after the 2024 final. However, he will not know its true potential before the start of February. Date on which pre-season testing organized in Sepang will begin.

“The challenge is enormous, because I'm taking a bike that was eighth or ninth, instead of a bike that was first, second, third or fourth, which is the Ducati, continues the Iberian. If I start with fifth positions, and end up winning races, I will be very proud. Or by making second places. The important thing is to move forward. »

Despite everything, Jorge Martín knows that the task will not be easy, and is already showing a certain realism on the sidelines of the season which is about to begin.

“My goal is not to win the world championship this year at all. Maybe in 2026 I can already think about it more, trying to fight for the championship. But right now, it’s seeing how I’m going to be able to give the best of myself.” concluded Jorge Martín.

Until then, Jorge Martin and his new teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, will make their first official appearance with the Noale factory on January 16, during the team presentation for the 2025 season.
