Aleix Espargaró officially joins the Lidl-Trek team

Aleix Espargaró has found his reconversion. Recently retired from MotoGP, the 35-year-old Spaniard has officially signed up with World Tour-level team Lidl-Trek. If he was previously announced by the Spanish media as a future member of the reserve team of the American structure, the latter announces that the Catalan will be one of its ambassadors.

Espargaró has been cycling at a high level for many years and trains alongside professional riders back home in Andorra. “ After a back injury forced me to give up running, I turned to cycling to recover and train, says the person concerned. Over time, it became more than just preparation: it became my passion. While living in Andorra, I made friends with many professional cyclists, which inspired me to train at a higher level. »

Via his role as ambassador, the Catalan will join the team on some prestigious events on the calendar, but it is not clear if the Spaniard will actually participate in certain races. However, he will share his experience as a high-level athlete with the young riders of the team. “ Cycling has been a passion of mine for years and I decided to leave MotoGP earlier than planned to join a program that perfectly matches my passion, rejoices Espargaró.
