MotoGP: Lewis Hamilton savior of KTM? Those affected by the rumor respond

The world of MotoGP was shaken by a rumor as unexpected as it was surprising: could Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, be on the verge of buying the KTM teams? If this news caused a lot of noise, it quickly revealed itself to be a house of cards.

During the Formula 1 weekend in Abu Dhabi, an unexpected rumor shook the paddocks:
Lewis Hamiltonseven-time world champion, would be interested in acquiring the MotoGP teams of
KTMincluding Red Bull KTM Factory
Racing
et Tech3. However, the facts show that this story seems to be more of a fantasy than a real project.

KTM is currently facing serious financial challenges, including liabilities of 1.8 billion euros and staff reductions. With production suspended for two months in early 2025, some have speculated about the need to find an external investor to maintain its two MotoGP teams, whose annual budget is estimated at 40 million euros. It is in this context that the rumor of the involvement of Lewis Hamilton emerged.

However, several crucial elements make this hypothesis very unlikely. So, KTM is linked to Dorna for MotoGP until 2026 and Tech3 for two more years. Afterwards, KTM benefits from a strong partnership with Red Bullits main sponsor until 2025. For its part, Hamilton is under contract with
Monster EnergyRed Bull's direct competitor. With the Sepang tests scheduled for February, the schedule is too tight to conclude such an operation. Finally, in the event of financial problems, Dorna would take back the places on the grid, without direct transfer to a new investor.

Stupor but not trembling at KTM in the face of the Hamilton rumor

Hervé Poncharaldirector of
Tech3described this rumor as “
totally unfounded » : « There is not an ounce of truth in these words. And I guess this also applies to the factory team. » Another framework of
KTM added in surprise: “ we read Hamilton's story with astonishment! »

Despite persistent rumors, KTM continues to actively prepare for the 2025 MotoGP season. The costs for testing and the first races have already been covered, and the teams are ready to face a new season. Hervé
Poncharal
concluded with determination: “ we are ready for the 2025 season, glowing in orange. »

Despite the media storm, the facts clearly show that Lewis Hamilton has no intention of repurchasing KTM. If the F1 legend were to ever join MotoGP, it would probably be in a very different role. For now, KTM remains focused on his future in MotoGP, without the shadow of a buyout.
