MotoGP 2025 – When will the next season start?

The final laps of the 2024 MotoGP season were completed in Barcelona last Tuesday, during the Official Test held on the Catalunya circuit. A test session which aimed to prepare for the 2025 season. Many drivers had also received authorization to race with the teams which will enter them next year.

The time has now come for the drivers and teams to rest. The summer break will not be very long, however. The action on the track will, in fact, resume sooner than we imagine.

The sound of the engines will ring out for the first time this year at dawn on January 31. A day which will mark the start of pre-season testing in Sepang. Thus, three days of trials (January 31 – February 2) will be organized as part of the traditional Shakedown. A driving session in which only test drivers from each manufacturer are authorized to take to the track.

There is, however, an exception for Tier D manufacturers (those who have scored less than X% of points over the last calculated period), namely Honda and Yamaha. These brands will be able to run their own drivers.

After Sepang, head for Buriram

These three days of testing will be followed directly by the Sepang pre-season testing, scheduled for February 5-7. This time, each team on the grid will be able to field its starting drivers, which will mark the start of the season for each of the twenty-two entered.

It will then be the turn of the Buriram circuit to host the premier category of speed races. The site which will host the first meeting of the season, instead of the Losail circuit (Qatar), will open its doors to MotoGP on February 12 and 13.

You will then have to wait a little shorter than usual to attend the first Grand Prix of the season. While the inaugural round took place on the weekend of March 10 this year, the Thai Grand Prix will be held from February 28 to March 2.

What about the other categories?

In parallel with the MotoGP pre-season testing, Moto2 and Moto3 will also return to the circuits. These categories will, however, occur at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia.

The smallest classes will have access to the track on February 7 and 8. The Intermediate Class Test will take place on February 9 and 10. Three additional days of preparation will be devoted to them in Jerez, from February 18 to 20.

For the rest, Moto2 and Moto3 will follow MotoGP as usual on its long tour, which – if all goes well – should include twenty-two events.
