JuniorGP Portugal J2: Established names emerge in qualifying as titles on the line at Estoril

As the sun rose this Wednesday at Estoril, the final day of racing looms with much still at stake, including three FIM JuniorGP World Championship titles.

Author of the pole in the FIM JuniorGP™ category, the leader of the Championship Alvaro Carpe (STV Laglisse Racing) hopes to convert its first ever P1 after qualifying. In Moto2, Alberto Ferrandez (Finetwork Team) set off for a second pole start in as many races, while in the European Talent Cup, David Gonzalez (AC Racing Team) set off for his second pole of the year 2024. The three-way fight for the European Stock™ Championship title presents no title contenders at the head of the grid, with that honor going to Dino Iozzo (IUM Motorsport), repeating his efforts from Estoril last May.

In category JuniorGP™, the leader of the Championship Alvaro Carpe (STV Laglisse Racing) allows the designated champion to start on pole for the first time in his career for today's two races, as the 17-year-old sensation aims to finish 2024 in style and bag the title as soon as possible.

By his side on the front line, Brian Uriarte et Maximo Quiles will have a say and, in Quiles' case, will fight for the title. Carpe and Uriarte have won races in 2024, but Quiles is yet to add his name to the list of winners this season, his first in the JuniorGP™ category. He was previously not on the front-row roster but managed to clear that first hurdle. However, the top three experienced drama as they all stopped on the circuit under yellow flags at different times.

Double winner of the race in 2024, Guido Pini will have to start from the second row of the grid in fourth position, thus maintaining his record of 100% starts from the first two rows. Jakob
Rosenthaler
(Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team) took fifth place, equaling his best qualification since Barcelona. He was also the fastest driver in the final sector, so keep an eye on him during the races. Adrian Cruces (Finetwork Team) completes the top 6, while Jesus Rios (MRE Talent), second in the title race, experienced huge disappointment after qualifying, starting at the back of the grid for Race 1 after driving slowly on the line. He will start from 7th place for race 2 after serving his penalty. Moreover, Amon Odaki (Asia Talent Team) achieved their best personal result of the season by taking 14th place on the starting grid, an improvement of nine places compared to the previous one.

In Moto2™ ECh, Alberto Ferrandez has scored two consecutive poles and, after his first victory in the last round, he is in an excellent position to end the season in style.

Unai Orradre (STV Laglisse Racing) took second place and after three podiums since the start of the season, he is looking for his first victory of the season. The first line is completed by Alberto Surra
(Team Ciatti – Boscosuro), who, after winning in Misano at the start of the season, seeks to end the year in the same way. The leader of the championship, Roberto Garcia (Fantic Cardoso Racing), had a difficult day with a crash in practice before finishing P5 in qualifying, but his main rival for the title, Mattia Casadei (Team Ciatti – Boscosuro), precedes him by one place on the starting grid (P4).

Johan Gimbert (Promoracing) will start from 15th position, Charles Aubry (I Racing) de la 21e, Lorenzo
Fellon
(SF Racing) is not participating, following a major surgical operation.

Author of his second pole of the year, the Spaniard David
Gonzalez
16 years old, will be the leader of the last race of theETCin front Giulio Pugliese
(CFMOTO Aspar Junior Team).

Marco Morelli (MLav Racing) will try to grab second place in the general classification starting from the third row. The already titled Carlos Cano
(Seventy Two ARTBOX Racing Team), 14, will start from fifth place in the middle of the second row and will try to achieve his seventh consecutive victory, which has never been done before.

On the French side, Enzo Bellon (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0) qualified 4th in group A, Matthias Rostagni
(Mecasport) 12e, Remy Sanjuan (Mecaprojets Team Ado) 13e
et Evan Boxberger (I Take OFF GP) 14e.
Benjamin Caillet (I TAKE OFF GP), Randy Truchot (Mecaprojets Team Ado),
Elliot Kassigian (Team Larresport), David Da Costa (BRS-Brechon
Racing School) et Henri Mignot (BRS-Brechon Racing School) are participating this morning in the Last Chance Race which allows 2 drivers to be selected, but ranging from 7th to 18th position…
