Francesco Bagnaia failed to retain his MotoGP title for the second year in a row, as he was aiming for a third consecutive world champion crown. The Italian Ducati rider was overtaken by Jorge Martín, who won his first world championship title, even though he won the sprint race and the Barcelona Grand Prix, the last GP of the season a week ago . On fire, Bagnaia gave everything with these two victories but he finished 10 points behind Martín in the general classification. After this race, he decided to remove his number 1 from his Ducati himself and this gesture was very strong. Because Bagnaia had become, in 2022, the first rider in ten years to choose to display the number one on his Motorcycle after his first title. And he then became the first rider in the MotoGP era to retain the title by wearing the #1 on the front of his bike in 2023. This year, he did not succeed and he therefore removed his own number 1 of his bike, explaining himself about it.
Bagnaia reveals a strong reason
The Italian revealed the very strong reason which pushed him to remove this number from his bike after the Barcelona Grand Prix, he who displayed it on his heart once removed. “I wanted to remove it myself and not let others do it for me. I had placed the number one on the first fairing so I had to remove the number one from the last fairing of the season. I think it was the right thing to do“, confided the double world champion, who will now take advantage of the off-season to rest and go on a honeymoon, having been married since this summer. “I don't know what I'm going to do but I'm going to enjoy it. I'm the type who doesn't make plans, ever. Obviously, for the honeymoon, we did some, but generally speaking I'm just going to enjoy it. I have other things to think about besides the bike and it's better this way“, he told the media. A good thing in view of getting back on track for 2025.
