Faster in Sprint on Saturday and more consistent in “real” Grand Prix on Sunday than the official Ducati and double champion Pecco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin finally registered his name yesterday in the premier category of motorcycle Grand Prix. A superb achievement for the Spanish n°89 and the private Pramac team which fielded Desmosedici GP one last time this season.
The irony of fate is that Ducati, which appears on the trophy alongside the 2024 MotoGP champion, will not wear the number 1 for a third year in a row… Irony of fate or unfortunate consequence rather of the procrastination and calculations of the leaders of Bologna who let “Martinator” slip away at Aprilia, preferring to secure the services of the 2013-14-16-17-18-19 MotoGP champion, Marc Marquez. Was #93 the right number to check?
Next year if the new motorcycle speed world champion wishes, the prestigious “Numero Uno” will adorn the fairing of his official RS-GP inherited in direct line from Aleix Espargaro, mentor and great friend of Jorge Martin. And this won't be the only notable change in MotoGP for 2025!
In addition to the numerous transfers of riders which will become effective tomorrow for the first test days of MotoGP 2025 in Barcelona (see the beautiful infographic from motogp.com above), the motorcycle speed world championship itself is undertaking a major evolution, mainly aesthetic…
“Designed in collaboration with Pentagram (the world's largest independent design studio), our new identity is much more than a logo“, announces the promoter Dorna who has also revised its slogan: MotoGP now rhymes with “Faster. Forward. Fearless.”
MotoGP. Faster. Forward. Intrepid.
The Gentil Organizers explain: for them, MotoGP represents “The fastest motorcycles. The most avant-garde manufacturers. The most fearless pilots on the planet. It is a quest from which only one man will emerge victorious. Join us at the frontier of possibility!“, they say with “moto”-persuasion.
Very recently (which notably manages Formula 1) and two years after a profound technical change (), MotoGP is undergoing its graphic transformation.to bring the most exciting sport on the planet into a new era“.
“The M of the new MotoGP logo is inspired by two motorcycles leaning close together on the track, as is often seen“, Dorna illustrates via a video (at the bottom of the article). “The “o”s express the geometry of the wheels, while the “t” represents the rider between them. Man and machine. The “GP” evokes the track and allows the logo to maintain its strong sporting aesthetic“.
MotoGP changes identity: official statements
Angus Hyland, creative director and partner at Pentagram:
“Working on the new MotoGP™ identity has been an incredible honor. It's been great to collaborate with the MotoGP™ team to reimagine this iconic brand, and it's impossible not to get caught up in the excitement of the competition and the people who shape it. It is hoped that fans around the world will embrace the new look and feel as MotoGP™ begins a new chapter“.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports:
“We are very excited to reveal our new identity and invite fans around the world to experience the new MotoGP™. Working with Pentagram has been an incredible adventure that has resulted in a result that we hope will be unanimously appreciated by our fans. A brand is more than a logo, and MotoGP™ is more than a sport. The process taught us a lot about both aspects and we are very proud to show the results to the world. The key question that arose throughout the process was: “What is MotoGP™?”, both today and in the perspective of what we want to become, and we hope that this new identity communicates everything from speed to passion and everything in between. This is MotoGP™.”
