After images appeared in European patent authorities, the new visual identity and logos of the MotoGP World Championship were officially revealed this Sunday.
The awards gala at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona marked the moment of revelation of what will now be the image of the Motorcycle World Championships for the future.
The move comes as Liberty Media's acquisition of Dorna is also underway. The new logo was designed by the Pentagram agency. The visual identity, including the typography, has also been modified under the motto “MotoGP of Tomorrow”.
Despite 75 years of history, this is only the third time that the MotoGP logo has undergone a radical change. Until 2001, the foundation was the acronym FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme), and the image changed with the introduction of the MotoGP era in 2002 — undergoing minor adjustments in 2007.
